Elevated to IEEE Senior Member

I was elevated to IEEE Senior Member in April 2026. It is the highest grade of IEEE membership you can apply for directly, and it is held by a small share of the institute's members. Elevation requires at least ten years of professional practice, five of those with significant performance, and endorsements from existing Senior Members or Fellows who can speak to the work.

The part I care about is what it unlocks rather than the title itself. Senior Members can review for IEEE conferences and journals, serve on program committees, sit on Senior Member and Fellow elevation panels, and nominate others for elevation. Most of what I have done since – peer reviewing, session chairing, and serving on technical program committees – runs through that door.

In August 2026 I also joined an IEEE Senior Member Elevation Group, which reviews and supports other candidates going through the same process. If you have been in the field ten years and have never applied, you are probably already qualified and just have not filled in the form.
